Kayserispor president Ali Çamlı has issued a strong response to former player German Onugkha's heavy criticism of the city of Kayseri. Çamlı accused Onugkha of physically assaulting teammates at the club's facilities, a claim he said he only recently learned about.
Çamlı reacted to Onugkha's comments about the city. "This player cannot be a man of Kayseri. He cannot bear the name Kayserispor," he said. The president also addressed Onugkha's alleged behaviour within the squad, stating, "At the club's facilities, this player punched other players. No player was left unhit by him, and I only learned this recently."
Onugkha had heavily criticised Kayseri in a recent interview. "The word terrible is even too mild for Kayseri. The quality of food, the quality of products, restaurants, taxis are terrible." he said. The player, who scored 8 goals for Kayserispor last season, caused major backlash within the club community with these remarks.
These statements come as Kayserispor enjoys a successful run in the Trendyol 1. Lig. The team leads the league with 22 points from 9 games and is in strong form with 4 wins and 1 draw in its last five matches. Their recent success has been underpinned by performances like their last match, where they controlled possession for 73 of the 90 minutes, keeping their opponents at bay. Leading by 3 points, Kayserispor will face Antalyaspor away on October 14th. The match against Antalyaspor this weekend represents a significant away test for the league leaders.
